The renovation of the former Ann’s Coffee Shop at 780 Santa Cruz Avenue combined a complete structural modernization with respect for the building’s mid-century character. Seismic upgrades included new footings and shotcrete reinforcement of existing concrete walls, alongside upgraded electrical, gas, HVAC, kitchen exhaust, and fire sprinkler systems. While the building was thoroughly modernized behind the scenes, great care was taken to preserve its defining architectural character, embracing the soaring ceilings, expansive storefront glazing, and indoor-outdoor connection that have long made the space a recognizable part of downtown Menlo Park.
The interior features a high-end tiled kitchen, custom bar with backlit glass and premium appliances, private dining room with hardwood flooring, custom tile floors with built-in seating, a freshwater aquarium at the entry, a custom mural above the bar soffit, refurbished speakers integrated into a new audio system, and an outdoor patio with a fireplace.
